Contractors laud Gov. Masari’s directive on using locals for labour
A contractor, Alhaji Ibrahim Bala-Funtua, on Thursday backed Gov. Aminu Masari’s directive for local sourcing of manpower and materials in the execution of government projects, in Katsina.
Bala-Funtua said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Funtua that the measure would create thousands of jobs and boost local businesses especially in the construction industry.
He noted that government’s contracts before now were handled by people from outside the state, thereby denying local residents of work opportunities and development of local economy.
Bala-Funtua urged people of the state to support the state government in its efforts to improve the wellbeing of the people.
He noted that the administration had invest heavily in the areas of education, health, water supply, electrification and infrastructure.
A resident, Malam Magaji Abubakar, said the initiative by the governor has created jobs for many young men and women in the area and enhanced the earnings of local businessmen.
Some building materials traders, Ibrahim Maishago, Salisu Nafuntua and Tasi’u Ahmad said their businesses have experienced boom as contractors now buy materials directly from them.
