Concerned Langbasan residents task Ambode on development, security

Concerned residents of Lagbasan community in Lagos have urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to beef up security in the area to guarantee the safety of their lives and property.

Chairman of the group, Chief Shakiru Falana Ayeni, who spoke in a meeting, also lamented that land grabbers and strangers, who have been seizing peoples’ lands.

Ayeni said these strangers also destroy existing houses or threaten the landlords, thereby disrupting the day- to -day activities of the residents.

He disclosed that in the past, Langbasa community had four quarters: namely Osho, Ojota , Ogbutese and Ogunbe.

“We have common boundary with Badore community, which starts from the Silver Point Estate, and were previously in control of the Lagbansa family council.

Ayeni recalled that the community was very peaceful and hospitable, before the in-flock of land grabbers and strangers, who claim to be indigenes “just to take possession of our land and property.”

“Lands with court cases are re-sold and the owners lives threatened.

He said many of the lands affected were in the Harmony Estate, Silver Point Estate and Langbasan Town.

“The government should come to our rescue before the situation gets out of hand,” he pleaded.

He also tasked the government and stakeholders on development and social amenities.

He said the community needs bore holes, good roads/drainage system and street-lights.

“We also want secondary school in Lagbansa, market, hospital and library because the land grabbers have sold all the lands meant for these structures. The government should help us retrieve these lands.

Ayeni alleged that some of youths come into their community from the riverine to indulge in illegal and nefarious activities that affect the people of Osho area specially.

He disclosed the group was prepared to work with relevant security agencies to ensure peace and tranquility in the community
