Kalama community in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa state on Sunday appealed to the State Government to reconstruct the collapsed bridge linking the area with Bokkos area of Plateau.

Mr Mohammed Ali, the Village Head of Kalama, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Wamba.

He said that the reconstruction of the bridge would not only boost the socio-economic activities of the people but also reduce the untold hardship traders and people of the area face due to the collapsed bridge.

“First and foremost, we want to thank you for covering our activities, as you can see, we are now trying to fix the bridge using planks because the collapse of this bridge had affected our communities negatively.

“It has forced us to pass through the river under the bridge reaching Wamba town.

“For more than a week, due to the washing way of the bridge by rainfall, communities along Kalama bridge in this local government have been completely cut off from the rest of the world.

“You saw by yourself how the people of the community find it difficult to pass the bridge, talk of transporting their agricultural goods to neighbouring markets and this bridge has linked us with Bokkos community of Plateau.

“We are appealing, crying to Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to salvage this community by reconstructing this bridge that links the community with other communities and with Bokkos area of Plateau to boost the socio-economic activities of our people,’’ he said.

According to him, the construction of the bridge will not only improve the socio-economic activities of the people but also the revenue base of the state considering the number of cash and food crops produced in the area.

Ali restated the community’s support and cooperation to the Al-Makura administration and appealed to the state government, as a matter of necessity, to rebuild the bridge for the overall development of the country.

He also called on Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
