A PASTOR with the Voice of Freedom Christian Fellowship (VFCF), Enugu, Polycarp Ugwu, is seeking the help of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) as he alleged police connivance with his accusers in his 23-day incarceration in Enugu Prison.

Ugwu was arraigned before an Enugu-North Magistrate Court on July 19 on charges bordering on attempted murder, preferred against him by one Jacob Ugwu but discharged on August 11.

Nevertheless, he stated: “My travail in prison with Jacob over encroachment on my land at Alulu community in Enugu-East council of Enugu State was greatly influenced by the police.

“That is why the Attorney General of Enugu State, pursuant to section 252 of the Criminal Procedure Law Cap. 31 Vol.11 Laws of Enugu State 2004, disclosed that the records of proof of evidence brought before him does not disclose sufficient evidence to sustain the charge of attempted murder against me.

“The attorney general, therefore, requested to summon me and have me discharged. Jacob is bent on using every means within and outside his possession to hound and grab landed property that does not belong to him, having sold over 1,000 plots.”

When contacted, however, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said he was not aware of the matter even as he directed the victim to come and brief him about the development for necessary action.
