• S’East govs deny meeting against FG over IPOB
• Re-affirm resolve to address agitations

Christian leaders, under the umbrella of Christian Elders Forum, yesterday declared as unfortunate, the alleged support they believed the Arewa Youths Coalition is enjoying from the northern governors.

The Christian leaders, who said this during a courtesy visit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership in Abuja led by Solomon Asemota, also wanted Nigeria’s political system restructured and return to the 1963 Constitution.

The leaders, therefore, advised that politics of religion should be dismantled in Nigeria, saying: “It has never helped any nation and it would not help Nigeria. If the country is going to unite and progress, the states must be neutral on the issues of religion.”

Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Ahmed Makarfi, who said the party had been a firm advocate of restructurin, expressed the belief that the system ought to be restructured to boost the capacities of institutions to fight corruption.

In another development, Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, yesterday denied the rumour that the body met behind closed-doors where they accused the Federal Government of killing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other issues.

Umahi, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, described the report as nothing but the writer’s imagination, adding that the report was craftily done to embarrass the forum and cause confusion between the governors of the zone and the Federal Government as part of efforts to thwart peace process with the IPOB.

He accused the originators of the falsehood of trying to sabotage the peace process already in motion between the forum and leadership of the IPOB.

However, the South-East governors have re-affirmed their readiness to amicably resolve all issues of agitations by the Nnamdi Kanu-led IPOB.

In a statement signed by Director-General and Director, Media and Communications of the Forum, Prof. Simeon Ortuanya and Mr. Michael Udah respectively, the governors also dismissed as “unfounded” news published online that they had sent strong warning to the Federal Government to “stop killing IPOB members.”
