China, U.S., India dominate Nigeria’s import in Q2, says Bureau

THE National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday said that Nigeria imported goods mostly from China, United States (U.S.), India, Belgium and Netherlands in the second quarter (Q2) of 2015.

According to the Bureau’s Q2 Foreign Trade Statistics report made available to The Guardian yesterday, value of imports from China stood at N336.5 billion or 22.5 per cent, while import from the U.S. was second with N143.6 billion or 9.6 per cent, whereas import from India was N115.4 billion or 7.7 per cent. Imports from Belgium and Netherlands were valued at N83.4 billion or 5.6 per cent and N80.9 billion or 5.4 per cent of the total value of goods imported.

The report showed that by continent, Nigeria consumed goods largely from Asia, with an import value of N665.7 billion or 44.6 per cent of the review quarter. The country also imported goods valued at N502.3 billion or 33.6 per cent of the total from Europe, and N210.1 billion or 14.1 per cent of the total from the Americas.
