Chevron receives award for supporting small businesses in Nigeria

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has received an award for sustaining its support for small businesses in Nigeria.The firm, operator of the Nigerian National Petrolum Coperation and CNL joint venture, got the honour at the 4th Sub-Sahara Africa Upstream Oil and Gas summit and exhibition in Abuja.

The summit was organised by Zenith Professional Training Limited.The award, which was presented to CNL at a dinner event at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, was witnessed by many dignitaries.

Among them were representatives of the NNPC, industry regulators, community representatives from the Niger Delta region, as well as participants and industry players from other African countries.

General Manager, Nigerian Content Development (NCD), Ms. Anike Odunlami, received the award on behalf of Chevron.It was presented by the Executive Director, Asset Management & Technical Services, Nigerian Gas Marketing Company Limited (a subsidiary of the NNPC), Emmanuel Akinsanya

Responding, Odunlami said Chevron was committed to the Nigerian Content Development (NCD), as part of its commitment to local capacity building in the nation’s oil and gas industry.She stressed that the firm was committed to empowering Nigerian service providers and suppliers through human and business capacity development.She also included local patronage, work scope reservation and fostering of business partnerships.

Odunlami explained that CNL has consistently reserved significant portions of job scopes for the benefit of local community contractors in its areas of operation.She added that the firm also has a strong focus on maintaining compliance in job awards to local contractors on its small, medium and major capital projects.

According to her, this is achieved through a standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure equitable participation of community contractors through CNL’s robust Local Community Content (LCC) policy.

Also, the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, (PGPA), Mr. Esimaje Brikinn highlighted the attendant benefits of the LCC SOP.These, he, said include CNL’s preferential selection and work scope reservation, to ensures patronage of indigenous companies.

Also involved is the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) with the respective communities, which is utilised to extend available business opportunities to the local contractors in the company’s areas of operation.
