CCPP berates political elite over insecurity in country

A coalition of political parties, under the aegis of Committee of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP) has berated the political elite for the continued killings in the country with a seeming inability of government to bring the menace to a halt.

The party observed that the nation’s democracy was under attack with the country gradually sliding into a complete breakdown of law and order as a result of what it described as high level conspiracies by few political elites, elder statesmen and some federal legislators who want to have the country under their control.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, chairman of the coalition, Onwubuya Breakforth called on those manipulating the system to have a re-think and desist from spilling the blood of innocent Nigerians, calling on the president and the security agencies to brace up boldly to tackle the security challenges and bring those responsible to book.

On the National Assembly saga, CCPP condemned the attack and the forceful taking away of the mace, describing the act as unacceptable, a national reproach and treasonable which further shows the level of security lapses in the country.

The coalition of 42 political parties also accused some politicians and members of the National Assembly of working to undermine the effort of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct free and fair elections come 2019.
