Cathedral Church of Christ marks 150 years anniversary

The Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos has commenced activities marking her sesquicentennial (150th)) anniversary. The weeklong celebration with the theme: “Celebrating God’s faithfulness,” began with a pre-anniversary organ recital on April 28, while the commemoration service took place on Sunday, April 30.

At a press conference to mark the milestone yesterday, the Provost of the Church, Reverend Adebola Ojofeitimi, cited relevant people and incidents that contributed largely to the growth of the Cathedral and also the activities scheduled to hold through the one-week celebration.

On Tuesday, May 2, there will be finals of the intersociety Bible quiz competition, while the anniversary lecture on “The Challenges of the Church in the current climate in Nigeria” will hold the following day by 11:00am at Muson Centre.

The lecture will be delivered by the current Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Professor Dapo Asaju. There will also be exhibition of some of the historical materials of the church.

This will be followed by an anniversary Cantata on Thursday, May 4, by 5:00pm, inside the church building. The Cathedral choir will be rendering one of the works of T.K.E Phillip, one time master of music of the Cathedral.

Friday, May 5, will be ‘Gala night’ featuring a special documentary on the Cathedral history and launching of the commemorative brochure at the Shell Hall of Muson Centre by 6:00pm.

The following day will be for the children, youth and women. Sunday, May 7 will climax all the events with the 71st Feast of Dedication of the present building and the 150th anniversary of the church. A service of thanksgiving will hold by 9:30am. The sermon will be preached by the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos and the Diocesan Bishop of Remo Anglican Diocese, Most Reverend Michael Olusina Fape. Also during the service, ten of deserving parishioners will be honoured in line with the church tradition.
