Buratai urges military to shun politics

Officers and men of the Nigerian Army nursing political ambitions while still in service have been urged to, as a matter of urgency, drop such dreams, as they have no place in politics.

The call, which was yesterday made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, during Regimentation and Leadership Training for Officers of 64 RC and SSC 44 at the 20 Battalion Serti, in Taraba state, charged the graduates to use their wealth of experience to nip the current security challenge on the bud.

Buratai who was represented by the Commander, Infantry Corps, Major General Lamidi O. Adeosun, said the relevance of the just concluded course ” in your career as commissioned officers cannot be overemphasised.”

Admonishing the officers and soldiers of the force to desist from dabbling into politics, he noted that ” it is pertinent to state that the recent gains of the Nigeria Army in the North-East and other internal security operations all over the country s expected to present the challenges of a growing rank of criminal elements and criminal activities.”

Such activities as stated by him were characterized by ” kidnapping, assassination, sabotage, armed robbery and other act of terrorism,” urging them to lead by example.
