Buhari urged to probe political killings in Rivers State

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has been implored to fulfill his pledge that those who perpetrated various acts of violence during the last general elections would be punished to serve as a deterrent to others who may be contemplating such acts in the future.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State chairman, Davis Ikanya, said that the party wanted the president to quickly look at the issue of electoral violence State, allegedly carried out by the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He declared that it had become imperative for evil collaborators in the pre-election and post-election violence to be brought to justice, as that was the only way the souls of victims of violence particularly APC members killed can rest at peace.

Ikanya said that the APC welcomed the striking out, on Wednesday by the Rivers Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, of the eligibility suit filed against the APC gubernatorial candidate, Dakuku Peterside, by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

According to him, with this, the stage is set for the unraveling of the big electoral fraud that saw Wike emerge as the winner of the governorship election.

The PDP chairman, Felix Obuah, has however declared that the tribunal did not rule on the motion of noncompliance with the mandatory 21 days notice as enshrined in the Electoral Act or the eligibility of Peterside as governorship candidate of the APC. He affirmed that the motion is still alive before the tribunal.

His words: “We reiterate the fact that this is one of the deliberate attempts by the APC to cause disaffection and undue anxiety in the state. Lies and propaganda have been the known antics of Dakuku and his master, Rotimi Amaechi, but we sincerely bring to the notice of the people that such widely circulated and sponsored media report making the around on the purported striking out of Governor Wike’s application challenging the eligibility of Dakuku Peterside is completely false, misleading and an affront to the tribunal.”
