Strong indications emerged yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari will today hold a crucial meeting with heads of security agencies in the country.

The time for the meeting was not disclosed, but it was gathered last night that it is specifically arranged to brief the president on the prevailing security situation in the country, especially as it concerns the increasing menace of the Boko Haram activities in the north east region as well as agitation by some youth groups among others.

Ahead of the meeting, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday met behind closed doors with some security chiefs in his office including the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, the Chief of Air Staff, and the Governor of Borno State Kashim Shettima. They did not speak to newsmen.

The source said that President Buhari is particularly worried by the increasing incidence of killing by Boko Haram insurgents in the North East despite the level of success recorded by the military before his departure to London, United Kingdom for a medical follow-up.

When State House Correspondents accosted the Borno Governor for comments, he also declined to speak. President Buhari had in his special broadcast yesterday morning vowed that his administration will not fold its arms as perpetrators of criminal acts disturb the relative peace and unity that law abiding Nigerians are enjoying.
