THE Special Adviser to the President/Co-ordinator on Niger Delta, Brig Paul T. Boroh (rtd), has set up a committee to immediately investigate all immediate and pressing issues inhibiting the smooth operation of the Niger Delta amnesty programme.

A statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Co-ordinator, Col. Dedis Abel (rtd), said the special adviser/coordinator has set up a verification committee to, among other things, harmonise all subsisting issues affecting the delay in the payment of stipends to delegates under the programme, as well as the tuition fees of students and other trainees under various scholarship programmes being administered by the amnesty programme.

The statement read in part: “The Special Adviser/Co-ordinator has also commenced the immediate re-organisation of the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Office in line with the President’s directive to reposition the office to engender sustainable peace and development in the Niger Delta region.

To further ease the operation of the amnesty office with regards to the payment of these outstanding allowances, the Co-ordinator has directed the office to immediately commence a comprehensive biometric verification data exercise to cover all current participants in the presidential amnesty programme after which payment of allowances will commence.”
