Benue govt dismisses as false PDP allegations of corruption, witch-hunting leveled against Ortom
Agerzua in a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday expressed surprise that going through the well circulated allegations against the governor, there was no proof to substantiate any of them, noting that such was quite contrary to the maxim that ‘he who alleges must also prove.’
He maintained that close watchers of events in Benue State might have noticed that since Ortom’s assumption of office as the governor of the state, he had been making full disclosure of the situation on ground and by giving regular accounts of monies received and how they were spent and wondered his boss consistent with his policy of transparency and accountability that was alien to the previous PDP administration in the state would be turn into subjects of blackmail.
The media adviser stressed that it was Governor Ortom’s judicious use of scarce resources in the state that had seen the commencement of payment of full salaries, reopening of the Benue State University, full accreditation of the College of Health Sciences for five years, ongoing comprehensive rehabilitation of the School of Nursing and Midwifery for reaccreditation, resumption of pumping of water in Utobi and Katsina-Ala as well as ongoing construction of laboratories at the College of Agriculture, Yandev.
He also said that the administration prudence application of resources had led to the commencement of the upgrading of facilities at the permanent NYSC Camp in Wannune, release of funds for the completion of the House of Assembly Complex and resumption of work on the Daudu-Gbajimba road and several other projects.
“The list is not exhaustive besides the return of development partners to the state and rekindling of confidence in governance,” he stated.
Agerzua who challenged the PDP chieftains in the state to controvert this fact insisted that the truth about Governor Ortom was that he had not soiled his hands and the allegation of corruption leveled against him could not be proved.
The governor’s aide while stating that the allegation of witch-hunting youths in the state leveled against Ortom was as nebulous as the others and reminded the PDP leaders that gone were the days when leaders raised, nurtured and armed thugs at public expense to commit crimes against the people with impunity and full support of government machinery.
Reacting on how leaders of the PDP had also gone to town referring to Ortom as temporary governor, Agerzua said that it was a shame to such people that even in the face of the most brutal government machinery at the state and federal levels, his boss defeated the PDP at the polls the result of which none of its leaders had contested.
