Bayero varsity VC, registrar summoned for alleged contempt of court

NATIONAL Industrial Court of Nigeria, sitting in Kano, has issued the vice chancellor and registrar, Bayero University Kano with an order of contempt of court for disregarding a directive by the court to reinstate one Dr. Aminu Abdu Bichi back to the services of the institution.

In a suit no NICN/KN/22/2015, issued on 25th of August, 2015, titled “Notice of consequences of disobedience of order of court, against the university VC Professor Muhammed Yahuza Bello and registrar, Sani Ibrahim Amin,” the court threatened to commit the two principal officers to prison for failure to carry out her injunction.

The dismissed staff, Dr. Aminu Abdu Bichi of the faculty of education was sacked on 28th September, 2012 for involving in an alleged consultancy scam.

He later secured a court judgement against the university in June 2014 after the court declared that he was wrongly dismissed.

A statement signed by the court registrar, Rabiu Hussani, posited that, “that unless you obey the directive in this order to wit; the dismissal of the claimants appointment was wrongful and in contravention of the provision of section 15 1 of the BUK Act and dismissal is hereby set aside and I hereby order that the claimant be reinstated without loss of salaries and allowances together with his seniority in service with effect from 28th September 2012 when he was dismissed from work.”

The release further said, “I hereby order that all payment sums be paid to the claimant within 30 days from today 19th June; 2014 less his indebtedness to the defendant.”

Efforts to speak with the registrar was not successful as he was said to have traveled out of the country for hajj, just as the acting registrar, Hajia Fatima Binta, declined to speak on the issue.
