Banning of IPOB, welcome development- Northern Igbo

Following persistent calls on the Federal Government by human rights activists and southeastern governors to withdraw military operations, Operation Python Dance II in the region, the  leader of Northern Tranquility Movement, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Gashash, has cautioned the Federal Government not to bow to such pressure, saying that the IPOB agitators are unpredictable.

In a chat with The Guardian, Gashash said government’s action of  sending the army to the troubled area was justifiable, as  the police cannot handle the eruption of crises in the troubled region.

He said that since IPOB agitators have  been labeled as terrorist organisation, they should be given Boko-Haram treatment, saying; “Yesterday, Igbo were all terrorized, and some of them have even left Kaduna, and that is what is called the side effect of terrorism.

“Biafran agitators were terrorists, who just want to make noise from nothing. The reaction to what happened in Abia State, was what led to Igbo not opening shops, and even up until next week, some among them might not come to market.”

Similarly, the Vice President of Igbo Delegate Assembly of the 19 Northern States, Chris Nnoli, commended the southeast governors and the Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo for proscribing the activities of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

However, Nnoli expressed dissatisfaction with the deployment of Nigerian Army to the Southeast, pointing out that their heavy presence is contributing to heightened tension in the region.

He suggested the withdrawal of military men positioned in the region, since according to him, “the police are capable of maintaining peace in the southeastern states, which is their primary responsibility.”
