Balarabe Musa, Aborisade fault Buhari, Osinbajo on assets declaration

By Oluwaseun Akingboye, Akure
07 September 2015   |   3:47 am
DIFFERENT reactions are still trailing last Thursday’s declaration of assets by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Buhari&OsinbajoDIFFERENT reactions are still trailing last Thursday’s declaration of assets by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The latest are coming from former Kaduna State Governor Balarabe Musa and rights activist Femi Aborisade.
They both spoke during the sixth public lecture organised by Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organisation (GAFAMORG) in Akure on Saturday.
Balarabe Musa, who was the chairman of the occasion, extolled late Fawehinmi for his contributions towards the sustenance of modern democracy. He however, faulted the recent asset declaration by the President and his vice, Professor Osinbajo for delaying the act.

The National Chairman of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who said that what the President told Nigerians during the campaign, was that he would publicly declare his assets, however, faulted his failure to do so until the opposition mounted pressure on him.

Musa said it is regrettable that a President like Buhari cannot be trusted for his words and this shows his insincerity in the fight against corruption.

The guest lecturer at the event, Femi Aborisade, recalled that the President told Nigerians that he had to borrow money to purchase his nomination form at the last election. He then wondered how three months after he could now have N30 million in his bank account.

Aborisade maintained that the asset declaration, especially of the President still leaves much to be desired if the fight against corruption in Nigeria by the All Progressives Congress (APC) can be seen to be honestly prosecuted.

According to him: “The use or misuse of public power for selfish interest defines corruption,” noting also that state governors who cannot pay their workers salaries, as enshrined in the constitution, should admit incompetence and resign rather than using the public law to maltreat the public.

Also, a Lagos-based lawyer Kayode Ajulo said the asset declaration is calculated to hoodwink Nigerians but to further use same to cover serial violations of their covenant with Nigerians.

Ajulo insisted that asset declaration must be done in prescribed form with particulars to ensure clarity and certainty, what is declared is vague, in bad faith and totally unacceptable.

“Particulars and full description of the asset have to be given for proper identification and verification. It is also incomplete, as the spouses of the two politicians did not declare theirs. It is the law that where any spouse of the declarant is not a civil servant/public servant such spouse should make the declaration with the better half,” he said.
Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko lauded the late human rights fighter, Gani Fawehinmi and pledged that he would continue to support GAFAMORG and all the legacies he left behind.
Mimiko remarked that politics is all about sacrificial services to the people, saying all his caring heart policies were borne out of his attempt to better the lives of the people in the state.

Buhari will eventually have no where to hide his dishonesty. When someone lies today his words can never be at sync with those he made yesterday. Buhari remains an embarrassment to himself

    • Author’s gravatar

This is your simplistic judgement usually carried by bigots not Nigerians who voted for him.

      • Author’s gravatar

You call it judgment but it is a reality you can’t stomach. Doesn’t it beat your imagination that a fellow claims to have taken a loan from FBN to finance an investment and turns out to claim that he has only one bank account which is in UBA? Only a moronic element could condescend to such an abysmal level of mentality. Indeed only fools without reasoning can listen to him. Idiotic to say the least.

        • Author’s gravatar

Bigot is always bigot n he remains a bigot wherever he finds himself sending venomous bigotry sentimental messages everywhere with the intention to get sympathy from his bigots brothers n sisters all coming together with the same intention to destroy what is built.so envious.

          • Author’s gravatar

Bigot! Bigot! Bigot! Experience has shown that those with empty reasoning process return insults to views with concrete facts and logic. Most of you people battle daily to defend Buhari’s illiteracy but the fact remains that the man can’t help himself. Every statement he makes gives him away as an illiterate. Indeed El Rufai once said that Buhari is the only Military officer that failed all senior military exams in the history of Nigeria. Insulting me won’t change anything

          • Author’s gravatar

Whatever venom n insult u pour on him will not stop him from following truth n justice.U may not be a Nigerian that is why u insulting the President. Well whatever we majority of Nigerians love this incorruptible gentle no Nonsense Buhari only bigots like u who lost the election are so inconsiderate hateful venting their anger vengeance with rage so spiteful ever seen in the way u exercised your useless freedom n opinion without much restraint as if he is not the President. U are lucky this is Nigeria where we have utmost freedom to express our views however distasteful disastrous may sound unlike in other African Countries where they have no freedom..

          • Author’s gravatar

I never expressed any view of mine but reported what El Rufai said. My reference to bank account was also the statements of Buhari himself. His position on owning one Bank account is not believable because he admitted earlier to have taken a loan from another bank. It is as simple as that. It is only in Nigeria people can get away from such a controversy. You are far from reality, I belong to the new World. You will never like the truth I have sent to you.

          • Author’s gravatar

Which truth u sending curled from concocted statement credited to El Rufai now quoting the Kaduna Governor to buttress your resolve as bigot.

          • Author’s gravatar

Buhari is my president and I wil live with that fact. Maybe you’ve just heard the word bigot. El Rufai was a staunch opponent of Buhari haven been in PDP before. It doesn’t matter if you elected to deny his words for him. I didn’t see him make the statement but read it. Buhari hasn’t helped himself either. Weren’t you ashamed listening to our president referring to the German Chancellor as the President of West Germany? Am I the one foisting illiteracy on Buhari’s head? The man has been consistent in proving himself and you are expressing pains and abusing people because of it. Aren’t you disappointed that someone that told the World he borrowed to buy presidential election ticket suddenly reappeared to claim he has N30M? Idiotic to say the least.

          • Author’s gravatar

U still recalling things of the past which had gone had gone with the intention to degrade n find fault with him yet u saying he is still my President if so why don’t u respect him ? Buhari is not a Saint as many have alluded but compared with most of our African leaders he is like Saint the incorruptible no Nonsense that’s our Leader Buhari love him or leave him to govern the Country he is the President not u or me or anybody for that matter.

          • Author’s gravatar

You have just confirm why Africa remains the source of pity. Someone has lied to you but on simple ground that some others lied more in your own estimation then he has become a saint in comparison. Am ‘relying on statements made before’, does lie expire? Ah!, you’ve turned to someone else that pointed out the lies as a bigot. I leave you on the plain of justice to place yourself. I can never respect a man that tells me he borrowed N1M only to hear from him that he has N30M. Period!

          • Author’s gravatar

I think u are trying to reason with an individual with limited reasoning ability, all be it an illiterate.Save ur breath and energy.Time will prove u right.

          • Author’s gravatar

Thanks dear. It’s really strange relating some fellows like that one.

          • Author’s gravatar

You are posting to win an indefensible argument. I presume we all want the best for Nigeria, but your argument reveals otherwise.
Buhari has restarted a convention started by Late Yar Adua, but abused by Jonathan.
What ever is missing from what Buhari has done, is sharp improvement on Jonathan’s disregard for constitutional convention.
I expect every well meaning Nigerian to congratulate Buhari for taking this part of honour, while we work towards lifting the standard of probity & accountability in government in Nigeria disregarded & abused by Jonathan.

          • Author’s gravatar

Am not alone with my view. Dr Goodluck had a far more detailed assets records than that Buhari. It is a pity the level of belief on nothing exhibited by some of you. Dr Goodluck’s properties in his declaration had addresses and values. I have both Y’Adua/Goodluck and Buhari/Osibanjo details. It is a shame, Bolarabe and Lawyers aren’t haters of Buhari. That man is filthy and it won’t last. We will all hear more.

          • Author’s gravatar

Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Jonathan was compelled to declare his N250Million assets in 2007, by Yar Adua. He claimed most of the money were surpluses from campaign funds, which should have belonged to PDP.
Jonathan refused to declare his loots in 2010 & 2011. When confronted he shamelessly said, “I don’t give a damn” – that public rogue is your hero.

          • Author’s gravatar

Yes, I can correct you. Dr Goodluck was being stampeded to declare outside the provisions of the constitution and he insisted on releasing his assets figures only within the period allowable and the constitutional framework. His statements on not giving a damn was after his election as a president and not VP. On that occasion, he insisted that the relevant authority will make his records public and not himself. Offcourse, that position was defended by lawyers and condemned by the same propaganda group. I repeat, I have the records

          • Author’s gravatar

Whatever u may say Buhari has declared his assets secretly n made it public for all to see .The bigots like u were not satisfied with the declaration which he made secretly to the Commission so now as a responsibility he wanted show to people like u bigots that he had nothing to hide. Let every Nigerian declare his/her asset if we are sincere n truthful.

          • Author’s gravatar

If Balarabe Musa pointed out lies of Buhari, why then are angry with me. You even criticised Balarabe whom you accused to have criticized Amino Kano. Now you have joined the faceless illiterate in telling lies. Balarabe isn’t supporting Buhari, he condemned him earlier as a corrupt fellow like any other leader. You are supporting a winner yet more pained than I am. I will never support an illiterate, certificate forger, a man with so much blood in his hands including those of innocent corpers he incited their killings. The idiot has now opened the lid that the predominantly Chibok Christian girls have been converted and given out in marriage. An unrepentant idiot he is.

          • Author’s gravatar

You are free to support whomsoever u like n we are equally at liberty to continue supporting the no Nonsense Buhari whether u support him or oppose him it doesn’t make any difference. Yes it was history of course Balarabe Musa with Abubakar Rimi Sule Lamido n others went on to form what was then called the Santsi or Progressive PRP opposed to the Tabo of Aminu Kano but is all now history. Balarabe Musa has been an advocate for Buhari supporting him criticising him does not mean he hates him like u bigot 4 your information..

          • Author’s gravatar

The intriguing thing is that you’ve spent all your communication with me using insulting words as bigot(intolerant if you don’t know the meaning) even when I never replied as such. The shameful thing is that you are aware than am from Niger Delta, a people that feed you and your other Northern states. Doesn’t it sound foolish for a parasite to be insulting the people that sustain him. What is the difference between the North and Ethiopia or North Sudan without Niger Delta. Even the newspaper site you use in spewing the rubbish is owned by someone from Delta State. Isn’t it foolish? It is a pity really!

          • Author’s gravatar

We know u lost election that is why u are so frustrated and got irritated because I used the word bigots generally against people like u. How many times u insulted Buhari our President ? Simply because u come from Niger Delta it has given u the license to insult Nigerians especially the President using all kinds of insult against him and the people from the North that is is why we call u typical bigot. When Jonathan was in power I never used an insulting remark against his person as our President. Now u realised insult is no good. Now going back to question of giving sustenance no one provides anybody with any kind of sustenance as u alluded by u bigot. It is only God that provides every one with his/her sustenance not anybody for your information n understanding I know u don’t realise or understand the implication or reality of what I have been saying as sycophant ignorant bigot.

          • Author’s gravatar

U are alone Balarabe Musa has been supporting Buhari all along was only making a point casual remark positive criticism so Buhari can fulfil the yearnings and aspirations of the electorates so as to improve their lots unlike yours which is so filthy vindictive full of hatred stereotype nothing positive meant to improve but all negative meant to discredit not to honour Buhari as President of Nigeria sorry to say u going beyond your bounds exercising so called freedom with the intention to tarnish the image of the no Nonsense we will continue to depend him at all cost.

          • Author’s gravatar

Thank u for correcting the bigot who can’t reason due to bigotry.

          • Author’s gravatar

Here he comes back the same opponent watching n doesn’t fear and continues to tell the truth u like it or not we wont allow u to go on with your deception deceiving majority of Nigerians who elected the no Nonsense Buhari while u deliberately refused to do so.

          • Author’s gravatar

Sorry, I couldn’t understand your statements.

          • Author’s gravatar

Read it again u will soon understand where we are heading.

          • Author’s gravatar

My dear, don’t be pained. That man Buhari can’t help himself, from his certificate issues, to defending Sharia, even declaration that killing Boko Haram meant killing the North. Borrowing from a bank and claiming he banks with only one bank yet outside his creditors, just name it. That man is just too illiterate to lie, hence he remains an embodiment of mockery.

          • Author’s gravatar

Going round the same circle as bigot who hates Buhari elected by Nigerians no one has elected u Mr Literate Sentimental bigot who is so blinded can’t reason like other reasonable Nigerians due to bigotry. Buhari will not budge or be intimidated with your stupid criticisms n he will continue to do the right thing which u people detest. U refused to support him but majority of Nigerians supported n elected him so why are u complaining crying foul wait for your turn in 2019..

          • Author’s gravatar

Bigot supporting bigot u are all the same we don’t care say whatever u want say it will not deter us from pointing to bigots like u or telling the truth.

          • Author’s gravatar

Which time u talking that will prove your relative bigot right.Anyhow u were given nearly six years u didn’t do anything now u are lamenting. So now is Buhari’s time your time finished therefore please allow him to decide n govern successfully he is only less than 4 months in power so he has another 42 or so months before he winds up in 2019 if u want take over from him subject to defeat in the ballot box..

          • Author’s gravatar

Remember he was a former Head of State being given Monthly pension don’t know exactly how much but having 30 million Naira only not Dollars or Pounds left in the Account as former Head of State now President is quiet remarkable n wonderful achievement compared with the way other African leaders live their lives.

          • Author’s gravatar

My dear I have no issues if Buhari has N100M. He is worthy of it but I will never respect him when he turns out that he borrowed N2M to buy electoral form. That’s deceitful to say the least. Try and understand me.

          • Author’s gravatar

He did not borrow money…he simply gave instruction to his banker that he had written a cheque for the form, and whatever his account status was, he should not allow it to bounce…now these have been interpreted or misinterpreted to fit all sort of colorations…but again, it is political silliness.

          • Author’s gravatar

He claimed to have borrowed the money. The cheque of a former president is an authority for any transaction. If he issued an instrument and gets through all that before his bank could honour his transactions then something is terribly wrong. There is no hiding place for this man, am sure we haven’t heard enough

          • Author’s gravatar

Grave digger digging trying to find fault with Buhari well he is human being like every one but at least he is more transparent with better record of fighting corruption than most of the so called African majority unfortunately corrupt leaders.

          • Author’s gravatar

I still repeat, when people lack issue driven ideologies on being engaged by others on arguments they either resort to abuses or violence. I remember one Northern fellow like you who drew out a pistol inside the Senate in the 2nd republic when Abraham Adesanya intellectually took him to the cleaners on a debate. His name is Senator Sidi Alli. Buhari is a colossal embarrassment as manifested in all issues concerning him and you still rate him in Africa. No African president today that doesn’t know the Berlin wall has since fallen. Buhari will still tell you he is going to West Germany to visit the president. Don’t be pained. We will all live with it.

          • Author’s gravatar

I also repeat u are digging the same grave that u have been digging for so many days with the intention to bury Buhari n his positive programme .which we will never accept as Nigerians who voted for him which u refused to do as bigot now criticising him..

          • Author’s gravatar

I can’t dig grave for someone with so much blood in his hands. Am a believer in Christ Jesus, never support violence, evil as perpetrated by the illiterate Buhari and Northern elders that swore to make Nigeria ungovernable and went ahead to recruit Boko Haram. God will reward them at the appointed time.

          • Author’s gravatar

U now want turn it into religious differences n conflict the unfortunate usual tactics n position taken by bigots like u n your likes the so called Islamic Boko Haram followers. The differences between u n them they say they are Muslims and u say u are Christian all of u are evil bigots using religious tactics to cause anarchy and division among Nigerians as non Nigerian thus causing disunity n chaos..

          • Author’s gravatar

Interpretation n misinterpretation whatever the incorruptible Buhari is loved by Nigerians who voted for him.

          • Author’s gravatar

Sir, I know a lot of those that read the Guardian are quite literate and are upstanding citizens but the use of unpleasant language rubs the shine off your contributions.
We must keep the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria on his toes. Believe it or not, the asset declaration is an embarrassment to all those who stand for the truth ! Before the elections, the president could not afford to buy nomination form and now he has N30m in his bank account !
            Nigerians wake up !

          • Author’s gravatar

The Administration welcomes constructive criticisms n we are free to express our opinions on issues but freedom is not license for anybody to do what they are doing pouring vindictive poisonous tit-tattle bigotry innuendos n other venomous lies all in the name of freedom to tarnish the image of the incorruptible no Nonsense President Buhari n his Administration..

Sec. 15 of the Act that sets up the Code of Conduct Bureau provides as follows:
      Declaration of assets
      (1) Every public officer shall, within fifteen months after the coming into force of this Act or immediately
      after taking office and thereafter‐
      (a) at the end of every four years;
      (b) at the end of his term of office; and
      (c) in the case of a serving officer, within thirty days of the receipt of the form from the Bureau or at
such other intervals as the Bureau may specify,
submit to the Bureau a written declaration in the Form prescribed in the First Schedule to this Act or, in
such form as the Bureau may, from time to time, specify, of all his properties, assets and liabilities and
those of his spouse or unmarried children under the age of twenty‐one years.

Has this be done especially when viewed against the backdrop of the particulars requested by the Act? Its No, I only hope in fulfilling the promise to publicly declare the assets, we would have a clear declaration as stipulated by law.

      • Author’s gravatar

My dear, Nigeria is a very funny country. Even Buhari knows that be can’t sustain a situation he calls others thieves while having questionable records and conduct. He is just a strange being. Absolutely weird!

    • Author’s gravatar

You obviously did not read the article before posing your nonsense. They did not accuse him of lying, but delaying.

      • Author’s gravatar

You don’t understand the details of Assets Declaration either. They didn’t declare assets but listed their few belonging. Must we reason according to our hearts on issues that have conditions. Better go and find out what assets declaration demands and compare with what they have done.

      • Author’s gravatar

Ha! Did you read the report? Ok this is one of the paragraphs, ‘The guest lecturer at the event, Femi Aborisade, recalled that the President told Nigerians that he had to borrow money to purchase his nomination form at the last election. He then wondered how three months after he could now have N30 million in his bank account.’

Balarabe Musa faults every one including his Late Mentor Aminu Kano.May be he thinks he is the only Saint left in Nigeria. Well Every one has his/her fault as human being but Buhari compared with other African leaders he is more than a Saint n we commend n support him for that.

    • Author’s gravatar

We were told Bubari was a saint. He said he had borrowed 2 million Naira to purchase APC presidential nomination forms. Did they not tell us he was the only past head of state that had no property in Abuja? What does his belated declaration say? We now know he even has property in Port Harcourt which location is still being kept secret. Criminal can even swear by the koran. You lie once and keep lying to cover up past lies.

      • Author’s gravatar

Who said Buhari was Saint when did he become one ? May be u made him but not us we know he is an ordinary human being and a Muslim like every one but not a Saint. He only tries to practice what he preaches this is why some people start thinking he is like a Saint n we said well if what u think he is more than that but he is still n ordinary just human not a Saint.

When you have collateral you can walk into any bank with or without being an account holder and request for a loan. Most businessmen do not carry out their business transactions with their own finances, even when they have more than surplus the reason for this is just to buy time and in the event of the business making a loss he can consolidate the repayment of the debt in installments. I do not see his borrowing money as an impossibility and I know Nigerians are insatiable, we are used to lies that’s the simple reason we find it hard to believe what is true.

  • Author’s gravatar

Why can’t people be reasonable for once? Balarabe never declared his asset when he was governor. I expect an old man like him to be sensible and not cause problem in the society. He is still bitter because Buhari sacked their regime. (A corrupt regime)
For once, a president is declaring his asset, and I believe he did it so people will compare what he has now and what he will be having after leaving office. Then people can talk. That is the essence of the declaration.
About the cattle heads, yes 150 cows can produce another 100 within a year if most of them are female.
So what if he borrowed 2million from the bank. As a sensible man, he had 30million then and decided to borrow 2, in case he loses the election. So what is lie about that?
Buhari meant well for the country when he was head of state. It was Babangida that destroyed Nigeria. He took over because of greed.
    Think and be reasonable

Femi Aborisade – Buhari did not tell Nigerians that he had to borrow money to pay for his nomination form. He actually refused to collect money from others to it, he paid his own money. What has been bent-out-of-shape was his statement which was that, he wrote a check and then spoke to his banker that whatever his account status was, he should not allow the check to bounce! …then back to you Femi, can you let us know your public tax returns of 2014? Please share with all…

Philosophers have ruled us. Let’s see how the illiterates will also play their part. I believe at the end of the day, the difference would be clear.
