Chairman of the 68-member National Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, has assured of fairness to all in the election of successor to John Odigie-Oyegun as Chairman of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The tenure of Odigie-Oyegun, who is poised to seek another term of four years as chairman of the party, expires by June.

His words: “I assure you that we will not fail the party. We will do all it takes to come out stronger and united as a party. I am sure the other group would be ashamed of themselves at the end of the day. Our party is keen on leading and caring for Nigerians.”

Badaru also dismissed speculations that President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal were planning to defect from the APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents after he met with the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He explained that what happened last weekend in the state during the APC rally was not crisis, but what he said was ‘political shunting’ by supporters of the different aspirants.
