A chieftain of the ruling All progressive congress (APC), chief Ogbonnaya Onu has enjoined those entrusted with positions of authority to set aside their personal interests and work towards the development of the country.

Speaking after he received the pan -African leadership award as Vanguard for true democracy by a seven-man delegation of the African Students Union Parliament (ASUP) in Abuja, the Ebonyi State native stated that Africa would remain the centerpiece of Nigeria’s foreign policy under the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

Assuring that the rule of law and respect for democratic norms and principles would be adhered to under the president Buhari led administration, the former chairman of the defunct ANPP explained that the resolve was premised on the fact that Nigeria is keen on ensuring the growth and development of the continent of Africa.

“I will like to call on our fellow Africans that no matter our own personal interests, we should always put the interests of our nation first and put the interest of our countrymen first, because you cannot have good leadership unless if it is selfless and committed. And that can only happen when we subordinate our own personal interests and ensure that yes that what is important is the common good. So, I believe very strongly that democracy from what I have seen, that the upcoming generation would ensure it grows in Africa.”

Underlining the importance of ensuring the upliftment of educational standards in various institutions of learning in Africa, Onu charged the students union leaders to work in concert with their counterparts in Africa to ensure a more united and prosperous African continent.
