The empowerment is part of Araoyeís initiative code named Makinde Arayoe (MKD) Social Security Scheme, which he started at his hometown, Ilawe-Ekiti in 2011 with the aim of alleviating poverty and improving the lives of indigents in the state.

Speaking at the event, which took place at Emure-Ekiti, Araoye said he decided to extend the initiative to the six local government areas in his senatorial district, which includes Ekiti South West, Ekiti East, Ikere, Ise-Orun, Emure and Gbonyin now, as a way of ameliorating the sufferings of the underprivileged senior citizens in the area.

Elemure of Emure-Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Adebowale Adebayo praised Araoye for using his personal resources to help the indigents, charging other privileged citizens to emulate Araoye.
