The Anambra Government said it had sunk more than 500 boreholes in the 18 months of Gov. Willie Obiano`s administration.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Solo Chukwulobelu, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Borehole Drillers Association of Nigeria, Anambra chapter, in Awka on Monday.

Chukwulobelu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Daniel Ezenwa, noted that government had recorded 200 per cent success in borehole drilling.

He also expressed happiness over the effort of the association in partnering with the government in the area of providing potable water for the people.

He said that government, on its part, would play a pivotal role in that regard.

In his address, the state Chairman of the association, Mr Chindo Umejiaku, noted that the inauguration was a major thrust toward optimizing the output of drillers in the water supply industry.

Umejiaku explained that the prevailing water supply circumstances in the state was far from conducive.

Earlier, the Vice-President of the association, Dr Lizzy Okoye, presented a paper titled “Towards Sustainable Water Management in Anambra,” at the occasion.

She called for the application of global best practices and the most advanced technology for water management plans in the state to succeed.
