LAGOS State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday expressed sadness over the death of one of Nigeria’s prominent business mogul and diplomat, Chief Antonio Oladeinde Fernandez.

Fernandez passed on at the age of 79 on Tuesday in Brussels, Belgium, following an illness.

Ambode, in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, described the deceased as a bureaucrat and experienced diplomat who served the African continent diligently during his lifetime.

The governor also praised him for his service to ensure the unity of the nation, adding that he would remain a true hero of the country.

Ambode said further that the leadership role of the late Fernandez, who saw himself foremost as an African serving as representative for Mozambique, as well as the Central African Republic at the United Nations, should be an inspiration to all.

“I wish to convey my deepest condolence to the family of the deceased, the good people of Lagos State and Nigerians on this painful loss,” he said.
