Alaibe denies being sponsored by Jonathan
FORMER presidential adviser on Niger Delta and a frontline contender for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the December 5 poll in Bayelsa State, Timi Alaibe, has refuted rumours in some quarters that he is being sponsored by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The refutal was contained in a statement signed the spokesman to Timi Alaibe Campaign Organisation, Richard Akinaka.
It read: “Our attention has been drawn to the story concocted by an online publication and echoed by one of the dailies during the week, purporting that the frontline contender for the governorship of Bayelsa State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Timi Alaibe, is being sponsored by former President Goodluck Jonathan. There is nothing farther from the truth. This falsehood is already being spread by mischievous agents of political contenders.
“Alaibe had had wide consultations with his allies and political stakeholders both in Bayelsa State and at the national level before decamping from the sinking Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“To infer therefore that former President Jonathan, a chieftain of the PDP is sponsoring a personality like Alaibe in a rival party is to sell short the integrity and capacity of Alaibe and even Jonathan. It is a lazy lie.
“It is amazing how many lies they will have to tell against Alaibe in a futile bid to stop him. The truth is that there is a scheme to shut Alaibe out and field a weak candidate so that the APC will become vulnerable in a way that the PDP will have a smooth ride to power come December 5.
“Those fighting to stop Alaibe know that with him, Bayelsa will be rescued from the grip of wicked rulers who do not mean well for the ordinary Bayelsans. Such people who have had and abused the opportunity they have/had to write their names in gold.”
Akinaka added: They know that with Alaibe on the throne, Bayelsans will experience a new dawn in good governance, and the weaknesses and failures of the past will be all too glaring. That is the fear provoking the wicked and mischievous attacks.
“For the record, Alaibe has broken every chord with the PDP and its chieftains. He has no pact – open or hidden, with former President Jonathan. Those who are afraid of an Alaibe know the evil they have done the people of Bayelsa State.”
