Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday urged parents to be vigilant in order to detect early traits of drug abuse in their children.

Speaking while commissioning the Enoch and Folu Adeboye Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Abuse Victims, Ambode said parents need to be vigilant so they could seek help for their children early before it gets out of hand.

According to the governor, the state government is partnering with the Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM), the foundation overseeing the rehabilitation centre, because it is doing what government should naturally be doing. He, therefore, thanked the foundation for helping to provide support to drug abuse victims.

Ambode told the beneficiaries at the centre not to relent as the opportunity provided by CADAM gives them the chance to live again and get stabilised for a better future.

He recalled that two of his friends went into drug abuse, but after rehabilitation, they became normal. He was also optimistic that they would regain their destiny and rise again like his friends.

In her welcome address, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christ Church of God (RCCG), Folu Adeboye, said substance abuse has become a scourge in the society. She said the centre serves as a place for transforming misguided youths who stumbled into substance abuse but are now seeking a new life.

According to her, truncated destinies have been restored as the centre has rehabilitated over 2,000 people.
