Accord party denies purported alliance awith PDP
The Accord Party (AP) has denied media reports that it has formed political alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja yesterday, its Chairman, Mohammad Nalado, said there was never a time such meeting held anywhere, adding that even if there was a meeting where such idea was discussed between PDP and other opposition parties, Accord Party was never present.
He cautioned those peddling the rumours, stressing that the National Working Committee (NCW) of the party does not contemplate any alliance of merger with any party, as being insinuated in the purported media report.
Nalado emphasised that Accord Party was committed to providing leadership to Nigerians and would continue to play its role as a responsible opposition party in Nigeria, which will offer constructive criticism to the ruling APC on policies that affect the people.
In a related development, Nalado, who is also Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has called on the National Assembly to make laws that would uphold party supremacy, especially as it commences the amendment of the Constitution and the Electoral Act preparatory to the next general elections.
He argued that upholding party supremacy is the only way of ensuring that those elected on platforms of various parties implement the manifestos for which the electorate voted them into offices.
