Academics bemoan abandonment of language institutes

Provost of the Adeyemi Federal College of Education (ACE), Ondo, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has lamented the abandonment of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN) across the nation.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary of National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Muhammad Bappah-Aliyu, reiterated its importance for national growth. Both men spoke at the four-day stakeholders conference on acculturation, themed: ‘Building United and Peaceful Nation through Acculturation in Nigerian Languages’. Ogen said that researches have proved through comparative studies that, “no nation could develop without its indigenous languages.”

The Deputy Execute Director of the Aba Institute, Prof. Obiajulu Augustine Emejulu, also recounted the administrative, management and logistic problems facing the institute since it was established in 1993.

Meanwhile, the alumni association has iterated its commitment to partner with the college for effective management, so as to prevent academic hitches facing other tertiary institutions.

The National Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr. Yemi Olugbamigbe, stated this while presenting a generator to the Exams and Records Unit of the college for effective collation of results, certificates and transcripts.

The Deputy Registrar, Exams and Records, Mr. Awe Adeyemi, who received the donation, commended the alumni for the gesture while appreciating the management for their unflinching desire in improving service delivery.
