No fewer that 90,000 military pensioners would begin their verification next week.

The Acting Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Brig. Gen Adekunle Adesope, announced this in Abuja, yesterday.

He said the exercise is to ensure that the biometric of the military pensioners are captured to avoid mistakes.

He added that the board would use the verification to correct the uncertainties surrounding military pensions in the country.

Adesope explained that the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali, would begin the verification at the Mogadishu Military Cantonment, Abuja.

He also explained that the exercise, which was last conducted in 2015, would hold at the same time in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Acting Chairman advised pensioners abroad to “visit the military pensions board’s office in Abuja for verification whenever they are in the country, from 27 November 27, 2017 to February 28, 2018.”

He said the briefing became necessary to inform the pensioners about the modalities, venue, timing and general expectations.

It would involve eligibility for verification and the biometrics data capturing amongst other details.

He stressed that the exercise is an avenue to verify all existing pensioners on the board’s current pay roll and update their records as necessary.

He said specific dates have been allotted to the various ranks to make the verification easy.

Adesope explained that the deliberate plan was made to have a manageable crowd throughout the period and ensure a hitch-free verification.

He further disclosed that it would involve fingerprint capturing with the biometric details that are currently in the MPB pay roll database.

The acting chairman urged the pensioners to cooperate and be orderly to make the exercise successful.

He explained that different dates were allotted to the various ranks, which would begin from November 27 to December 9, 2017.
