Seven people were wounded in twin grenade attacks on a police bus in Burundi on Tuesday, police said, the latest in a string of attacks in the troubled central African country.

Hundreds have been killed and almost half a million people have fled Burundi since President Pierre Nkurunziza’s controversial decision last April to run for a third term.

“There were seven wounded, six policemen and a child that his mother was taking to the clinic, and two of them were seriously injured,” deputy police spokesman Moses Nkurunziza said of the attack in the capital Bujumbura.

Last week, at least three people were wounded by grenades, one of which was thrown at an army bus, witnesses said. Two senior army officers were also assassinated last week, raising fears of a renewed violence after weeks of relative calm.
