President Muhammadu Buhari’s dream of putting smiles on the faces of the have-not through the monthly payment of the sum of N5000 to old and disabled people, has begun to yield positive results in Taraba State as no fewer than 4,350 of them yesterday went home with N10,000 each.

The amount, as stated by the Head of Unit, Taraba State Cash Transfer Unit, Skepra Useni Bako, during the official kick-off of the state social enrollment programme which took place at Sunkani in Ardo-Kola council area “is for two months.”

Warning that relevant strategies have been put in place to ensure that “only old people and disables who have no sources of livelihood benefit from the monthly gesture initiated by President Buhari, the handlers, according to him, will go extra legitimate miles to ensure the success of the exercise.

Kicking off the exercise, the First Lady, Barrister Ann Ishaku, said the state government under the leadership of her husband would continue to work tirelessly to support the President’s quest to check poverty.

Citing numerous poverty alleviation programmes so far embarked on by the state, she urged the beneficiaries to judiciously make use of the monthly allowance “to help themselves and the families.”

The council chairman of Ardo-Kola where the kick-off took place, Salihu Dovo, said necessary plans have been mapped out to halt any form of malpractices adding that the exercise would not be hijacked by politicians.
