2015 Odenigbo lecture holds Sept 5
THE 20th edition of the Owerri Ecclesiastic Catholic Archdiocesan Day will take place on Saturday, September 5, at the Oderi Odenigbo at the premises of the Assumpta Catholic Cathedral, Owerri, the Imo State capital. It will be preceded by other pre-event activities.
Briefing journalists yesterday at the premises, the Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastic province of the church, Dr Anthony J. V. Obinna, said this year’s lecturer, Prof. John Iheanyi Obilo, a Reverend Father of the church, would dwell on the topic “Obe Jesu Christ Ofo Ndu: Ogu Ndu (The Cross on Jesus Christ: The living truth — the living innocence).
According to him, the series, which was introduced by him on consecration as Bishop, was started in 1996, adding that it has achieved its aim largely by propagating the Igbo language in the world.
He noted that upon his retirement, his predecessor would decide on whether, or not, to sustain it.
Notable Nigerians who have delivered the lecture in the past were late icons, Profs. Chinua Achebe and Dora Akinyuli.
Obinna noted for his social critique urged Igbo and others to make the cultural benefits a global phenomenon.
