Ministry clarifies Tinubu’s directive on release of grains from reserve

Senator Abubakar Kyari

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has announced the release of 42,000mt of grains from the National Strategic Grain Reserve as well as release of 60,000mt of rice by the Rice Miller’s Association at a subsidised rate.

The minister said the release was among efforts by the Federal Government to address the current food shortage and inflation in the country. He stated: “The grains will be distributed to all states of the federation, and will be sold at subsidised prices. This will ensure that all Nigerians have access to affordable food.

“The release of these grains will help to increase the supply of food in the market, which will lead to a decrease in prices. This will provide relief to Nigerian families who have been struggling to afford basic necessities.”

He commended President Tinubu for the swift action in approving the release of the grain, saying it was a clear demonstration of his commitment to address the challenges facing the nation.

He also commended stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to achieve the result. He added: “This is a step forward for all Nigerians. A stepping stone for those who have been struggling to put food on the table.

“Let us all come together and work towards a prosperous and food-secure Nigeria.” The Director, National Strategic Grain Reserve, Sule Haruna also gave assurance that there were enough grains to be released as directed by the President.
