It’s been a Presidential week with all the drama you’d expect as Trump took up the mantle as leader of the free world.  Our own President also made the news but for all the wrong reasons.  In the meantime, Big Brother Naija, revealed to be in South Africa, is facing accusations of false advertising.

Here are the stories that made our week…

Women’s March against Trump

Women across the world marched in solidarity against Donald Trump on his Inauguration Day.  His past lewd remarks against women during his campaign came back to haunt him as women from the US to Kenya reminded him that despite him winning the US election, he is still a loser in their eyes.

Man United pay cut

Manchester United may no longer be the richest club in the world after seeing revenue drop. Players at the club who are paid more than anywhere else could face a 25% pay cut if they fail to reach the Champions League this year.  Somehow though, we don’t think the violins will be necessary.

Chrisette Michele

Another casualty of the US Inauguration was RnB singer Chrisette Michele who was lambasted online for singing at the ball and then lost a Netflix deal.  She shot back with profane tweets and an open letter claiming to be the solution to the issues in America right now. Unsurprisingly that didn’t go down too well either. Sometimes you just need to say you were wrong.

Big Brother Nigeria launched with the usual set of oddballs but the real story was the house being moved to South Africa. The Government has launched an investigation on whether the show has breached broadcasting guidelines, but may end up red faced when producers explain how the issues of Naija living are very real.  Art imitating life?

Desperately seeking Buhari

The spectre of our late President Yar’Adua rose this week when Buhari was suddenly declared dead by roguish bloggers at Metro-UK.  Buhari, who had flown  to the UK for medical treatment, tweeted himself reclining in the UK to appease the rumours.  But suspicions once raised were not easily quelled by this not very British-looking snap and questions are still being asked. Could history be repeating itself?

No exit yet for Brexit

Will she, won’t she?  Theresa May said yes, but the yellow brick road out of the EU is not so clear after the UK Supreme Court said the UK Parliament must also vote on the EU issue.  Yes, it’s still going to happen, but will those who voted for it (all the really old people) still be alive to enjoy it?
