Visiting a spa has a lot of benefits attached to it: beautification, relaxation, stress and pain management, detox, weight loss, improvement of self-esteem and confidence, improvement of circulation, breathing and blood pressure, anti-aging benefits, skin benefits, for inspiration and for bonding with loved ones. Women love feeling and looking beautiful both on the outside and on the inside, and spas are the go-to place for this. Although most spas offer more modern services, sometimes it is refreshing to have a taste of ancient beauty treatments.

Maisaa Beauty Spa offers alternative Northern traditional spa treatments. Maisaa was borne out of the need to share age long beauty secrets from northern Nigeria to other parts of the world. They offer all-round spa services including customised bridal treatment, post-baby care treatments for mothers, henna parties and Arabesque-themed parties.

Some of their traditional beauty regimens you can try are:
1. Dukhaan/Duhrot (Smoke bath):
This is a private beauty ritual using incense laced smoke to detoxify the skin also leaving it perfumed for days. This treat detoxifies and perfumes the body and also tightens the private areas of a woman.

2. Dilka/Kruhkum (Turmeric scrub):
Dilka is a northern traditional scrub that leaves the skin exfoliated, soft, glowing and fragranced. Dilka and Kruhkum constitute a major part of “gyran jiki”, which is a beautification phase of wedding preparations.

3. Halawa (Sugar waxing/ Body Sugaring):
This traditional sugar recipe is one of the most ancient forms of hair removal. The removal is gentle yet exfoliating treatment that leaves your skin smooth and sweet after the process.

Almost like a tattoo but even better. You can switch it up for every new occasion. Our hands and feet henna is a winner!! 😃😃

4. Lalle (Henna/Mehndi):
An ancient form of body adornment, henna art is a cultural practice. Henna tattooing is used as a popular form of expressions for luck and happiness and can be found in many ceremonial practices, including marriages, births and Blessings.

Feel free to visit Maisaa as they launch officially this Sunday, 30th of July from 2-6PM at 30 Providence Street off 2nd roundabout, Lekki Phase 1.
