It’s easy to have fun if you just know how. Establish a routine where all members of the family know that you’re doing something together on certain days of the week—For instance; think watching movies together on Friday evenings, going to check out the farm with grandma on Saturday mornings, making a new type of recipe every Sunday evening or walking together as a creative team to give the rooms a juvenile touch. These are structural ways to invest in your family as you all bond together.

Add the following to your family rituals to create more healthy lifestyles together.
  1. Eat together

Today’s families are busy and scattered in multiple directions doing one thing or the other. Mothers may be at work long after children leave school. Fathers do night shifts. Children may have music classes, dance practice, soccer practice, and the list goes on. However, it is critically important that parents consistently share meals together at least twice each week no matter how tight the schedule. Whatever you do, do not allow your busyness make you ignore this important ritual.

  1. Study together

Make it your business to read what your kids are reading so that you can ask them questions. Even if parents are not in school, they should still be studying something from time to time. Asides from academic books, there are lots of books out there parents can share knowledge from with their families. You can start with story books, Sunday school lesson books and other educational books. Let your children see you study as they study and watch them as they do as it enables you a great opportunity to encourage your children on their academic excellence, assist them on home works when necessary and find out which subjects are causing difficulty-and figure a way out.

  1. Take trips together

Your family income may not allow for extensive travel budgets. However, you don’t have to take a trip to Dubai if you can’t afford it at the moment. Varieties of trips can be planned locally. For instance, if you go to the movies together, to a local play, to the home of a senior relative who lives in a city that is least an hour drive, those are great trips together. Moreover, you can use the web to find great local trips for children that are budget friendly, then, save up for the big trips activities. Remember to plan trips with them so they can know what choices you make and for what reasons and ensure to be intelligent with your answers so you don’t pass the wrong ideas to them. Let them choose some of the activities for the trips. Whether it’s a site seeing trip, a trip to monuments, a trip to down town parks or even a trip to another country, in so doing, you’ll build memories that you and your children will cherish for a life time.

Some parents actually send their children to church and church activities but do not attend themselves. This should not be the case. If you want to rear children of faith, they must have parents who are people of faith.

  1. Thank each other often

Encourage your kids and spouse to keep secret journals where they record all the times they find family members doing something good—like picking up garbage for one another, or helping out at a homeless shelter, when a child clears the dinner table without being asked, goes to bed without an argument, or when Dad picks up the dry cleaning for Mom etc. Create family times for brief meetings; maybe every last Friday of the month, for a time to express thanks by doing something positive. This teaches kids values and empathy and gives them new places to learn.
