Great Tourist Attractions In Nigeria

Nigeria is beautiful; our motherland is filled with human and natural resources. Most people forget that there are beautiful places to visit in Nigeria. You can become a tourist in your own country by visiting the following tourist destinations.

Ogbunike Cave: Ogbunike Cave was discovered by a hunter called Ukwa. The Cave is described as the very wonder of nature as it still retains its historical and spiritual significance till date. The Cave segmented into sections, is found in Anambra State, few kilometers away from the Onitsha market town. There are different stories about the various sections that constitute the cave. The stories are better told by the native tour guides. A festival called “Ime Ogbe” is celebrated annually in commemoration of the discovery of the caves. A stream flows out from one of the tunnels into a rapid flowing river (River Nkissa), at the meeting point of the river. One can feel the warm water from the caves and the cold river water. Beside this portion of the river is a table land of about 5 X 5 square meters used as a relaxation spot by visitors to the caves.

Azumini Blue River Rose: Azurnini Blue River is located in Abia State, towards its boundary with Akwa lbom State. The River has become a popular resort for tourists because of the pleasantness it offers. The attractive features of the River include its crystal-clear blue water, canoe rides, and sandy beaches with relaxation facilities like a BBQ grill. The Blue River can be arguably called the crown jewel of all tourist centres, as it is a rare kind. Little wonder Azumini people are proud to be associated with it. The Azumini people believe that it was because of the peculiar nature of the river that their forefathers decided to settle in the present location called Azumini.

Silicon Hill: The Silicon Hill is found in Enugu State, near University of Science and Technology (ESUT). This area is actually a significant mineral deposit.  The hill, which is more than 300 metres above sea level and almost half a kilometer long,is packed full of silica – an important raw material for the manufacture of glasses. The surrounding environment is extremely captivating; hills, valleys and planes all aesthetically placed to provide an irresistible, breathtaking view.

Yankari National Park: Is located at the north-eastern region of Nigeria; Gombe, Bauchi State. It is revered to as the Best Park in Nigeria for spotting wildlife. The park is famous for its variety of animals like Crocodiles, herds of waterbucks and buffaloes baboons, lions, Hippopotamus and a strong community of elephants; available for viewing precisely between December and April for the best animal spotting. This is during the dry season when the animals gather around the Gaji River. Park visitors are permitted to use their own vehicles on the condition that they take a guide. Alternatively, the park runs safaris twice daily. The safaris last for two hours and depart between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Ibeno Beach: One of the numerous fine beaches in Nigeria. It is the most outstanding natural tourist attractions in Akwa Ibom State. Ibeno Beach is over 90km long, stretching up to James Town on the Atlantic.  It is known to be the longest beach in West Africa, forming a border between West Africa and the Atlantic Ocean. A lover of water sport would find the beach most inviting.

National Museum, Lagos: The National Museum Lagos was established just before Nigeria achieved full independence from the United Kingdom in 1960.  It is over fifty years old and has one of the most significant collections of West African antiquities in the world. Lord Cultural Resources was asked by the Ford Foundation to facilitate a retreat for the National Museum to identify the vision for a revitalized museum in terms of its role and impact in Nigeria, West Africa and the world at large.

Lekki Conservation Centre: In Lagos is operated by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, this center has a huge tract of wetlands set aside for wildlife viewing. Raised walkways enable you to see the family Fun Park, situated at the degraded portion of the NCF Biodiversity Park that has fish pond with exotic fishes, sections for family games, barbecue section, gazebos, jungle gyms and many others. At the park, there is so much to do and every member of the family from the youngest to the oldest would have something to busy with.

It is best visited early in the morning. There is also a conservation centre and a library for visitors. Recently there has been a canopy walkway which is longest canopy walkway in Africa and the second longest in the world, the aerial foot bridge is 401 metres long, 0.6 meters wide and 22.5 metres high.
