It’s my very first article for a major publication and I’m super excited, suddenly it feels I have started making use of my undergraduate degree skills which makes me quite bubbly.

While I’m super pumped, that’s not why I’m here today. It’s August and we’re right in the middle of summer. We all know this is the best time of year to show off a little more skin without getting judgemental looks, and I intend to enjoy every second of this glorious season.

If you, like me, would like to get your summer skin glow, then follow these really simple tips: –

infused waterWater

Water is the single cheapest way to get a healthy and radiant skin. It’s described as the magic drink for skin glow and for good reason. Whether fizzy or still, water is full of natural minerals which help elevate your skin complexion, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and cellulites, and, more importantly, water has zero calories and does help in weight loss.

Tip: If you find water boring, try infusing with your favourite fruits for added flavour.

FoodFood

You ever heard the phrase ‘you are what you eat’? Eating colourful and healthy meals add to the overall outlook of your skin, nails and even your hair. Eating healthy carbohydrates, protein, fruits and vegetables will work magic on your skin. They also help reduce bloating, making you feel more confident when you’re wearing those super short shorts and extra tight dresses.

Tip: You don’t have to deprive yourself of the “unhealthy” things you love; treat yourself to a cookie or a chocolate bar once in a while.

Yoga (2)Exercise, especially Yoga

Yoga is like the coconut oil of exercises (I’ll talk about coconut oil in a bit). It does everything from enabling better sleep to boosting emotional health. It also promotes a healthy and glowing skin. Yoga beats stress and depression which are major agents of skin problems. Did I mention it helps sculpt your bootie and tightens your abs?

Tip: Start small. Consistency and gradual growth pays off.

ExfoilateExfoliate

Exfoliation is the removal of dry / dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. It generally improves the skin texture, evens out skin tone, detoxifies and brightens your complexion; all of which leave your skin looking younger and healthy. While there are a lot of conversations about how often you should exfoliate, I exfoliate every day with Aveeno Positively Nourishing Smoothing Body Wash. I do calm the effect with mild toilet soap at night.

Tip: Exfoliate at least once or twice a week. Find a product that works for your skin or make yours.

MoisturizeMoisturize

Bad things happen when you don’t moisturize. Really bad things like dry, ashy, cracked skin which honestly just looks plain awful. You should moisturize every day to keep your skin looking and feeling young, hydrated and soft. While there are a lot of moisturizing lotions available in stores, I’m a sucker for using body oils and coconut oil wins my vote every single time. When buying body oils, be sure to buy the naturals ones and not the refined ones you mostly see in stores.

Tip: The best time to moisturize is after you shave, exfoliate and/or bathe.

Bonus Tip: Always remember to shave your underarms, bikini lines and legs when going bare. That way you don’t have to share the attention with sticky hairs.

Silky smooth skin doesn’t happen overnight, it comes from a combination of things but it definitely starts from within. So let’s get undressed and enjoy the summer!
