Denim is known to be a staple piece in majority of people’s closets. It has gone through different trends such as denim on denim, ripped jeans, skinny jeans etc. Currently, the denim look has evolved again by bringing back an old trend known as the patchwork denim.

Patchwork is created when different colors of the same material or different cuts of fabrics are put together to create an outfit. The patchwork denim look is an upcoming trend you don’t want to miss out on. Certain designers such as Saint Laurent, Off- White and Assembly New York resurrected the trend in their latest 2016 spring runway shows.  While one of the things that make this trend great is the fact that you can add virtually any fabric to the denim, it can just as easily turn out to be a terrible mistake. You have to be very careful in selecting and adding fabric to your patchwork so it doesn’t end up looking tacky. If you’re DIY-ng it, you also don’t want your end result to look like it was put together by blindfolded nursery school students.

The other great thing about patchwork denim is it isn’t limited to just pants. You can also rock this trend in dresses, fitted or flare, Ripped denim, jackets, skinny jeans, hats, shoes, bags, etc. It’s such a versatile trend, almost anyone can pull it off. You can go edgy, or classy, or just simple and casual, depending on what your personal style is.

Remember: with patchwork, you’re going for fun and/or edgy; not tacky. Usually, the best way to achieve this is to stick to the 2 or 3 toned denim color patched look. It’s a style you’re more likely to see on the street and it’s a lot easier to pair with other outfit details like your favorite shirt, or those shoes you can’t get enough. You could even throw a patchwork denim jacket over a simple dress to give it a little extra ‘oomph’.
