Ever wondered what men are thinking? Well, Temi Akinmudu has got you covered. The managing producer at BOX TV, who also created the Ndani TV show, Skinny Girl In Transit and recently released a new show called Things Men Say.

She explains her inspiration behind the idea when she says, “I hear the most outrageous things. What they really think about women, life, love and I will always say to them this needs to be on camera.”

Akinmuda is also an on-air personality at Cool FM where she hosts The Midday Oasis, alongside Dotun and she recently won best parenting blog at the Nigerian Blog Awards, for her blog, First Time Mom.

Guardian Life caught up with Akinmuda who talks about putting together her creative content.

Tell us how you initially started creating content?
I had always wanted to go into television and filmmaking a friend of mine, Onos, just pushed me to bring my ideas to production companies and I did.

What was your vision for Skinny Girl in Transit? Did the storyline stick to your vision?
My vision for SGIT was just to show what it was like living as a plus-size girl in Lagos, how to find love and how people can be quite judgmental about your life decisions solely based on your weight. I think they have veered away from my original plan but it’s still a great show and I am very proud of it.

Tell us about your blog, what’s your major perspective on motherhood?
My blog was born out of the need to give back to young mums like myself. When I was pregnant I didn’t find any information that was tailored to Nigeria, all the blogs were foreign blogs. So I decided to start mine solely based on my experience as a first-time mom. I think motherhood is doing what you feel is best for your child. There are no rules because every child is different.

What do you enjoy most about being on air?
I love the people who call to talk. The fans are amazing!

How did you choose the cast for Things Men Say? What were you looking for?
In terms of the cast, I wanted to make sure that the show had a variety of men from different socio-economic backgrounds. I also wanted men who would not sugarcoat things and I wanted real men, so I selected men that I knew would say their ‘church mind’ as they say. So when you watch the show, you also see older men talking about why they chase younger ladies. There are also married men talking about sex after marriage. It gives the show an authentic feel.

How would you consider the female perspective in the show? Perhaps “Things Women Say”?
I think women have done a lot of talking, it’s time for men to say something without talkback from women. However, we might just do a surprise episode with women. You never know. Just keep watching.

Tell us about any other interesting project you’re working on our plans for the future?
After creating Skinny Girl in Transit, I started working on a new comedy-drama series called First Time Mom loosely based on my parenting blog with the same name. They will be produced by Box TV in partnership with WeTV later this year.
