Eating healthy isn’t really the Nigerian way. Give us the platter of spicy carbs and protein and we’d patronise you for the rest of our lives. That being said, it hasn’t stopped places like Simply Green from flourishing and giving people a reason to eat healthily. I ate at the Simply Green cafe located at WorkStation, a co-working space located at No 7, Ibiyinka Olorunbo Close, Victoria Island. Although, I’m sure they have more than one outlet in Lagos.

Looking at their menu, I was very much confused on what to get as this was my debut venture into eating healthy. As much as I was excited to be doing this, I also did not want to choose a meal I’d regret. So like every indecisive lady, I changed my order about three times before settling on one. I ordered the Pick Me Up infused Rosemary Chicken Sandwich and a Pick Me Up cold-pressed juice.

While I waited for my meal, I distracted myself with some light reading and the view of people walking in and out of the building. My meal came in under 10 minutes. The chicken sandwich was okay, but I expected more. I didn’t get any taste of the rosemary nor the pick-me-up ingredient which drew me to this meal in the first place.  It felt like any regular toasted chicken sandwich. The veggies on the side surprisingly were my favourite part of this meal, they were fresh and the sauce that came with it made it much more appealing.

This Pick-Me-Up cold-pressed juice was everything! Considering the horrible experience I had at Mint Restaurant the other day, I was hesitant at first.  But as a strong believer in second chances, I tried this out and I was glad I did. Plus, the waitress said it was their best-seller. The cold-pressed juice had carrot, orange, apple, pineapple, lemon and ginger and it had me feeling very good at the end of the meal.

At the end of the day, I was satisfied and didn’t feel hungry for a very long time after having this meal. I didn’t finish my juice at the cafe but I kept on drinking it while I was at my event at Workstation.

If you are looking for something light and healthy, then try eating at any of their outlets around town.
