Queen Latifah has announced that her mother, Rita Owens, is dead. According to a statement released to PEOPLE, she passed away on Wednesday after a heart condition that lasted more than a decade.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news my mother, Rita Owens passed away today … She had struggled with a heart condition for many years and her battle is now over…I am heartbroken but know she is at peace”, she shared.
She also put up a post of her mother on Instagram with the words 143 (i love you)
She moved in to her mothers apartment in New Jersey to care for her in 2015.
