Nostalgic Movies For The Season

As we get older, we sometimes forget how Christmas made us feel when we were kids. In the spirit of the season and reliving the good old days, here are some Christmas classics that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and fill you with waves of nostalgia.

• The Polar Express (2004)

The Polar Express is a record-breaking 3D motion capture musical film which tells the story of Hero Boy (Daryl Sabara and Tom Hanks), who has begun to lose faith in Santa Claus. He spontaneously hops on a train called The Polar Express where he meets Hero Girl (Nona Gaye), Billy the Lonely Boy (Jimmy Bennett) and other bizarre characters who go on a wild adventure to the North Pole. A touching story about faith, love and friendship, this movie is a must watch for the entire family.

• The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)

This cult classic is a musical comedy with some serious undertones as it follows the life of Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine) a character from Charles Dickens original story called The Christmas Carol. Scrooge is a mean man who doesn’t believe in Christmas or the joys of the season. As punishment for his lifestyle, three ghosts of Christmas visit him at night and take him on many misadventures while the Muppets tag along.

• The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (2005)

Based on the classic novel by C.S Lewis of the same title, The Chronicles Of Narnia tells the story of the Pevensie children during the time of the second world war in England. Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) who had to move to the country home of Professor Digory Kirke (Jim Broadbent). Lucy finds a wardrobe that leads them to a secret fantasyland called Narnia, where they discover that they are destined to save Narnia from the evil White Witch (Tilda Swinton). The Chronicles of Narnia is a seven-book fantasy series but only three movies have been made so far.

• Home Alone (1992)

This movie never gets old no matter how many times you’ve seen it. It follows the story of Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) who is accidentally left at home while the rest of the family takes a holiday trip to Paris. McCallister is forced to defend his home from Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), the self-titled “The Wet Bandits” thieves. The comedy filled with a lot of heart is the perfect for the season. Although the movie has four sequels, none can compare to the first.

• Elf (2003)

Elf is an adorable story about a baby boy Buddy who gets stuck in Santa’s sack during Christmas and gets transported to the North Pole. At the North Pole, Buddy (Will Ferrell) grows up believing he’s an elf but because of his human size, he can’t keep up with the elves at work. He finds out later that he is human and his only parent alive is his dad. Unfortunately, his father is on Santa’s naughty list and he (Buddy) decides to save him. Elf is a coming of age story that gives many laughs while subtly teaching life lessons.
