Nigerian Bar Association President Supports Hijab, Nigerian Twitter Disagrees
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president, A.B Mahmoud has reacted positively to the Hijab controversy but Nigerian twitter is having none of it.
It should be recalled that on the 12th of December, a University of Ilorin student, Amasa Firdaus refused to remove her hijab when asked to before entering the International Conference Centre on the day of her call to bar. As a result, the Body of Benchers refused swearing her in.
Eyewitnesses say that she became aggressively insistent that their action is a violation of her right to freedom of religion which is protected by Section 38 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
Meanwhile, the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, A.B Mahmoud personally thinks the act of the Body is “needless” and has put a picture of his daughter’s call to bar in New York. In the picture, she is clearly wearing a hijab.

His post has garnered a lot of attention from the Nigerian public. Most of whom have taken to twitter to speak against his opinion.
See the tweets below:
On this Hijab 🧕 issue, I’m not into law & I don’t know if it is constitutional or not; but
If she is allowed, will Celestians be allowed to be without shoes?
Will traditionalists be allowed to paint their faces?
Will “nudists” be allowed to come naked?
Yea, I am a Muslim.

Lmao. I was there all through that Hijab drama. And the way we begged her to remove it n enter for her call was annoying. N she was busy insulting n cursing everyone. We got tired and said to her ‘no be you be Muslim alone for here o’. N sat n laughed at her all through

Do you think someone that can’t take off her hijab for her call to bar will be able to judge fairly in a case that’s affiliated to Islam?

I think it’s a ridiculous rule to not be allowed to wear hijab for call to Bar. Makes no sense to me
I also think it’s ridiculous to go somewhere knowing their rules and regulations, break it, then say it’s unfair.
