Vinegar is one natural and affordable product that will make cleaning your house much easier. It is cheap, natural, free of toxins and has an amount of acidity high enough to kill germs, bacteria, and even mould.

Here are five of many ways to add vinegar to your home cleaning routine. You can use vinegar to clean:

Microwaves

It can be very difficult to keep the inside of a microwave clean. But you can deep clean a microwave oven and remove dried food using an equal mixture of vinegar and water. Put the mixture in a microwave-safe bowl and allow it to boil inside the oven. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then wipe it clean easily with a damp cloth.

Carpets

Vinegar is perfect for cleaning carpets, regardless of what you’re using to clean it. If using a steam cleaner, fill it with full strength vinegar, add a few drops of essential oil like lavender, and use it to clean your carpet. The smell will be strong at first but will disappear as soon as the carpet dries. You can also clean spots on your carpet with vinegar. Mis vinegar and water equally in a large spray bottle. Shake well and spray directly on the stain, then scrub gently with a clean cloth. If the stain is stubborn, let the vinegar sit for a few minutes, sprinkle a little baking soda on the vinegar, scrub with a clean brush or cloth, then rinse and vacuum.

Hard flooring

This includes tiles, laminate and hardwood floors. Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar in a bucket with a gallon of hot water. Then mop your floor with the solution. This will kill germs and bacteria, and make your floors shine beautifully. The strong smell of vinegar will go away after the floor has dried.

Dishwashers

If you have a dishwasher and are not sure the best way to clean and disinfect it, try this. Pour a cup of vinegar in the bottom of your empty dishwasher. Run a regular cycle making sure to use warm or hot water. Cleaning your dishwasher with vinegar will not only kill germs, it will make your machine last longer and run better.

Paintbrushes

Clean your paint brushes with vinegar. This will remove all the paint, kill germs and soften the bristles, making them last longer. Mix hot water and vinegar equally in a disposable container. Soak the paint brushes for 30 minutes and then rinse under running water. Use dishwashing liquid to remove any remaining paint and rinse again. This method works best on brushes that have been used to apply water-based paint.
