How To Make DIY Multipurpose Face Masks

Face masks are effective on your journey to having flawless skin. This is a guide to simple face masks you can whip up on a cursory visit to your pantry. Healthy foods work on the skin from within, but certain foods can also work on the skin from the outside.

For blackheads

Apple Cider Vinegar

There are different types of acne, but the most common are whiteheads and blackheads. They appear as blocked pores with a marked black spot on the surface of the pores. Regular application of the face mask below will remove it.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 drops tea tree oil
  • 1 tsp orange juice
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
Method
  1. Mix the ingredients. Apply generously using gentle circular motions.
  2. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
  3. Reseal the pores with cool water and moisturise.
  4. Repeat once a week.

Clearer skin

The skin mirrors what’s going on within and outside the body. This face mask will clear up the tired and dull skin.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 3 tbsps lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
Method
  1. Mix the dry powders together. Add honey and lemon juice.
  2. Mix the paste until you get spreading consistency.
  3. Rub the mask into the skin and leave on for five minutes.
  4. Rinse off with warm water and seal with cold water.
  5. Moisturise. Use this mask as often as you need to.

Dry skin

Dry skin is prone to looking tired and wrinkled due to the deficiency of sebum, especially in dry weather. Thus, dry skin needs masks that will hydrate and soothe the skin and replace necessary oils to firm it up. This mask can also double as a conditioning mask for your hair.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup ground oatmeal
  • 1/2 a ripe avocado
  • 1 tbsp yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 ripe banana
Method
  1. Mash up the bananas and avocado flesh together until there are no lumps.
  2. Add the yoghurt and honey and stir. Add oatmeal and mix.
  3. Apply the mask and leave on for 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse off with warm water and seal in the moisture with cool water.
  5. Repeat once a week.

The wonderful thing about skincare is that it shows. Put in some love and you will keep turning heads wherever you go. Remember, a mask is not a replacement for good skincare, dietary and lifestyle habits.

Note: Steaming helps to open up the pores to promote better results. Apply face masks on a freshly-steamed face.
