So this past couple of weeks, I’ve been on some major seafood craze and I have officially ended the hunt with Ocean Basket, which is officially my number one go-to spot for seafood. Located on Plot 1392, Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Ocean Basket is a South African restaurant, which has a menu packed with a variety of seafood surprises.

To start…

Garlic bread and scampi with sweet chili sauce

The garlic bread was nothing short of perfect. The bread was smothered in creamy lemon garlic sauce, baked, and topped with feta. While it seems like an odd combination, I haven’t enjoyed other alternative versions of the regular garlic bread (with garlic butter). This version had brilliant twist to it, and it was a great portion for a starters. I always opt for something crispy to go with garlic bread, like fried calamari but this time, I opted for some crispy prawns instead, which was perfect with the sweet chili sauce.

For the main…

Platter for 1

The meal consisted of 3 Mussels, 6 king Prawns, catch of the day, calamari & calamari Heads. Can I just say, perfection? What more can you ask for in a platter? While the menu stated “prince” prawns the waiter suggested ”king” prawns for a slightly bigger (more expensive) option. The food tasted quite fresh, and you can ask for some extra pepper sauce, which adds a nice twist to the creamy sauce. They also give some extra sauce options like garlic and chili oil. I found that the meal was slightly too salty but with some extra pepper it tasted just fine. You get to choose between fries and rice (jollof or fried).

To drink…

Ocean Basket sunrise

It was a berry fusion of some sort, I couldn’t actually tell what exactly was in it, but it was sweet and quite strong. It was very slightly more watery than a daiquiri and Just perfect after a long day at work

Verdict

It really was fantastic!
The service was really good as the staff was very attentive. Also the food looked really attractive, I love that it’s served I a pan. It gives the presentation a unique element. Perhaps I’ll try out their seafood pasta next time!
