While this summer’s fashion scene is bursting with traditional fabric staples like silk and cotton, there seems to be a major takeover for tulle this season as seen on and off the runway. Tulle, in all its sheer glory, projects a glamorous representation of royalty and fairy tales. It is no wonder it has been associated with wedding dresses and ballerina tutus from reputable designers the world over.

Ever wondered how to pull off that swanky ensemble with tulle at its very core? Here are a few tips curated especially for you:

1. Choose a colour wheel

Tulle outfits come in different colours, cuts and styles. So, identifying a preferred colour wheel is pivotal to curating a desirable selection of ideal pieces for your wardrobe. Yet, achieving this requires asking one all-important question: “What colours am I most comfortable in?” Answering this question may help define future fashion choices when purchasing wardrobe pieces.

2. Conservative or risqué

The theme and basis for every ensemble are important. This informs the general direction of the styling requirements. For a more conservative feel, try incorporating other complementary fabrics like a cotton blouse or silk pants with your tulle piece. An all-out tulle on tulle ensemble is suitable for a more edgy look.

3. Printed tulle is a yes!

Tulle is not left out for print lovers. They are readily available whether floral, embellished or patterned. If you’re looking to try some tulle with a twist, then give prints a go.

4. Keep it interesting

Try adding a little excitement to your ensemble as much as is allowed. You could achieve this by pairing the same old pair of sheer tulle skirt with a different cut blouse and more colourful shoes. Or you could simply go all out and throw in a panelled leather jacket. Better still, rock a cute pair of jeans underneath that sheer glory to keep things glamorous and interesting.

5. Try tulle embellishments

If tulle outfits are not appealing to you, try starting small and then build up from there. You could incorporate tulle embellishments like scarves or socks into your regular ensembles. Once a certain level of comfort is built, feel free to be a little extra by working basic tulle jackets and blouses into your stylish wardrobe.

When it comes to tulle, the possibilities are endless so start with what makes the most sense to you. Ensure your outfit choices are focused on your specific tastes and keep things exciting always.
