Felabration is the annual festival celebrating the life, times, music and ideals of Nigeria’s icon and creator of Afrobeat Genre, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. It is one of the top 300 festivals in the world.

The Nigerian corner at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival is shaping up to much fun as the 20th edition of Felabration celebrations take off in London at the globally acclaimed carnival on Monday, August 28, 2017.

Its appearance at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival is in honour of the 20-year Anniversary of Fela’s transition to the greater beyond. This London Event technically flags off our countdown to the year’s national festival which holds in Nigeria between October 9-15.

The committee of the 2017 edition, in conjunction with the Lagos State Government, Felabration Park will birth at the Emslie Horniman Pleasance Park, on 12, Golborne Gardens, Kensal Road, London, W10 5DH, come Monday, August 28.

From 10 AM till 8 PM, the events will witness Afrobeat dancers, top Nigerian and foreign artists, spoken words, carnivals and everything Fela.

Some members of the organising committee, led by the founder and executive producer of Felabration, Yeni Kuti, leave for the United Kingdom this weekend in readiness for the Carnival. This advanced party has the task of putting finishing touches to the five-star appearance of Felabration at the carnival.

Conceived by Fela’s eldest child Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, Felabration has brought together over the past decade, leaders and controllers of the global music industry.

It has also provided a platform for thinkers in Africa Philosophy to bare their minds on issues of Pan Africanism, Blackman’s Future and contemporary challenges of governance in Africa. Across the globe each year, about the same period, franchises replicate the festival in their territories. And each comes with individual peculiarities without losing the brand’s essence. Such is the phenomenal status of Fela worldwide.
