G.L Favourite Artworks From #DrawingWhileBlack
If you were active on Twitter over the weekend, you may have noticed many black people from around the world showcasing their artistic talents using the hashtag #DrawingWhileBlack.
These young people are making us so proud with their work. There are so many amazing ones, but we can only bring a few of them from that trend. Feel free to go on Twitter and check the hashtag for more of them.
Of course, we have to start with the organiser of the trend. Annabelle Hayford a 19-year-old Ghanaian agender artist studying animation and illustration at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). She tweeted “Starting a hashtag event to celebrate and appreciate Black artists this weekend” last Wednesday, rallying other people to showcase their work using the hashtag. An account (@DrawingWHileBlk) was created and other people jumped on the trend and wowed the internet.
Denzel, a digital artist and fashion illustrator from Ghana, did this drawing of Beyonce and the details are everything.
Princess Kay is a Nigerian Illustrator, and she put up a few portraits she had drawn, including this one.
Ricardo Edwards is a Jamaican visual artist. This painting is beautiful.
Sozo Maika is a concept artist based in New York and loves making designs inspired by fashion, and the details are everything.
Benjamin Kwashie is a Ghanaian artist and specialises in drawing with a ballpoint pen. His art is so detailed.
Oluwatobiloba is a Nigerian charcoal and graphite pencil artist. She also paints her drawings, like this one.
Samuel Owusu Achiaw is a Ghanaian pencil artist, and his attention to detail is amazing.
Adanna is a Nigerian artist who claims to love dramatic lighting and shiny things. Her paintings are so beautiful.
Yasmin is a self-taught digital artist and graphic designer, and is obsessed with drawing women. Her art is so good, all you really can think of is hanging it up in your sitting room and staring at it all day.
