The 105-year-old Islamia school is gutted down by fire. Over 30,000 books, including the world’s oldest copies on Islam and ancient copies of the Quran, are destroyed. It sparks a protest in Srinagar and is described by the Anjuman-e-Nustratul Islam as “a conspiracy to destroy history”.

Over 40 people are reported dead in the twin bomb blasts that rocked the central city of Jos. President Mohammed Buhari promises to do “everything possible to eradicate Boko Haram, terrorism and mindless extremism from Nigeria in the shortest possible time”.
