Let us pray (15)

.God Is Our Friend (Cont)

Months, maybe years, had passed since Solomon’s prayer of dedication (Chapter 6). Several other building projects had been completed after the temple (2 Chr 7:11; 8:1). Then after all this time, God told Solomon that he had heard Solomon’s prayer. How often do we look for immediate answers to our prayers and, when nothing happens, we wonder if God has heard us? God does hear, and he will provide for us. We must trust that God will answer at the proper time.

In 2 Chr 7:14, chapter 6, Solomon asked God to make provisions for the people, when they sinned. God answered with four conditions for forgiveness:
• Humble yourself by admitting your sins.
• Pray to God, asking for forgiveness.
• Seek God continually.
• Turn from sinful behaviour. True repentance is more than talk — it is changed behaviour.

Whether we sin individually, as a group, or as a nation, following these steps will lead to forgiveness. God will answer our earnest prayers.

In 2 Chr 7:15, when we are in need, there may be no one with whom we can talk with or we may be afraid to share our need with another person. God assures Solomon, however, that he will not lack assistance when he comes to God in humility, seeking help. God promises to listen to every prayer offered in the right attitude. God is always available. (Read Jer 29:12-14)
What Is God’s Promise To Those Who Call Upon Him?

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12: Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13: And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14: I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity,” (Jer. 29:11-14).

29:12-14, God did not forget his people, even though they were held captive in Babylon. He planned to give them a new beginning with a new purpose — to turn them into new people. In times of deep trouble, it may appear as though God has forgotten you. But God may be preparing you, as he did the people of Judah, for a new beginning with him at the centre.

29:13 According to God’s wise plan, His people were to have hope and a future; consequently, they could call upon him in confidence. Although the exiles were in a difficult place and time, they should not despair because they had God’s presence, the privilege of prayer and God’s grace. God can be sought and found when we seek him wholeheartedly. Neither strange lands, sorrows, frustration, nor physical problems can break that communion.
